Explore YEG | Fading Away of Winter

This time of year is probably one of the ugliest times ever, as the snow melts away, leaving huge puddles and creating piles of mud everywhere, revealing the dried, dead grass and empty tree branches for all to see, yet there is a certain beauty to it too. The transition from winter to spring gives rise to longer days, brighter mornings, later sunsets, and warmer weather. Although I am not the biggest fan of summer (it's too hot for me), the temperature during this time of year is manageable.

Taking a walk around the lake is extremely calming; standing, observing, listening to the sounds of nature, of birds, of the wind, and inevitably, of the cars, the train, and the airplane. Yet, just taking a moment to stand there in the stillness of it all leads to the realization that this is our world, where we eat, sleep, cry, laugh, where we grow up, where we live. All these elements coming together in one moment brings a certain beauty to all the chaos.

Sunday Snapshots | Illusion?

It is often said that organization will contribute to one's happiness, but what if that organization is all just a method of hiding what is underneath? How easy it is, to maintain the appearance of organization, of happiness. How hard it is, to try and dig yourself out when you hit rock bottom.

These past 2 weeks have been, by far, the most stressful weeks of the year. I had a test almost everyday, if not two, and also a few assignments and projects along the way. In addition, I was working 3 days out of the week, while still trying to maintain my sleep schedule. Unfortunately, after my last test yesterday (I am finally licensed), the sickness began to descend on me like a tide - my throat hurt, I had a migraine, my entire body ached, and I got heartburn.

I'm a bit annoyed that now is when I got sick because I finally get a break from school to spend time with friends, but my body is just breaking down. But, I also remind myself that at least it wasn't during the week of school so that I could still somewhat study and do my exams.

On another note, I have definitely fallen behind with taking pictures everyday and it hasn't even been 3 months yet. It's actually such a struggle to remember when there are so many other things to do, but also because it is hard to decide what to take a picture of sometimes.

Sunday Snapshots | Stars

I sometimes wonder if stars really think about themselves as stars, or if they are only seen as stars by others but don't see themselves that way.

Evidently I have decided to take a different route with posting weekly photos as it is getting progressively more difficult to take a picture every single day. However, I am planning on posting at least one photo every Sunday, with varying lengths of stories/thoughts in relation to the photo. Feel free to join in! :)

Literature | Stonehouse Publishing House

Just over a week ago, I was contacted by Melanie Kerr who informed me about a new publishing house being establishing right here in Edmonton! As my blog transitions to more posts about local businesses, events, etc. this could not have been more perfectly planned. Unfortunately, I could not make it to the launching of the publishing house this past weekend but I'm sure it was an exciting night for everyone there.

I am extremely excited to see where this new opportunity is headed as it is the first publishing house that I have heard of being established in Edmonton. They will be publishing their first 5 books in May 2016, so be sure to get your hands on a copy and support our local authors!

Week 10 | Treat Yourself

After several weeks of not having much school work to do, it all came crashing down on me this week. In a way, it feels as if I am standing here watching my impending doom build up, about to crash down. On Thursday, I felt so overwhelmed that I started crying, in the middle of my driving lesson. Thankfully, my driving instructor was kind enough to let me pull over and take a few moments to gather myself.

Leading up to that day, I actually had been feeling extremely good lately whilst still expecting the build up of homework and assignments, as is the norm for before week long breaks. Although I am still bitter, I just need to power through these 2 weeks and then it will be spring break! After Thursday, I have just taken time both to study, but also just to spend some more time with friends in order to try to calm myself down. It's sort of a paradox such that the amount of work I do is stressing me out, but spending time with friends - thereby shortening the time I can work on assignments or study, helps to wind myself down a bit. I tend to get extremely tense and freak out a lot.

72/365: The sky would have been completely dark a few months ago when I arrive at the LRT station, but now it's always so bright! Although, with daylight savings, I'm sure it will be another few weeks before this starts happening again. I really do enjoy waking up to the sun rising though!

I finally went to Woodrack Cafe after months of anticipation! They opened back in September but I kept waiting to go, I'm extremely glad I did. The staff that I talked to there was extremely kind and fun to talk to. Contrasting the professional exterior, the inside had a comfortable, rustic environment. I did think it would be a bit bigger as I noticed that they got quite busy and several people didn't have a place to sit! All in all, I will definitely be returning.

I got an Iced Americano and a banana loaf! The banana loaf was denser than I thought it would and a bit on the dry side, but the taste was different, in a good way!

Week 9 | Busy, busy, busy

This week has been extremely hectic since I've hardly been home except to sleep; I worked on Monday and Wednesday, then had to stay at school for a late night rehearsal on Thursday. Most of the pictures I took this week were at school so I won't be sharing those for privacy reasons! Keeping with the happiness/gratefulness theme for the rest of the month...

65/365: I'm in love with making oatmeal because there are just SO MANY possibilities for toppings and mix-ins, I can have a different breakfast every day! Fine, I'll try to take less pictures of my food but sometimes I just can't help it.

66/365: A Hogwarts pin I got from Disney World several years ago. Harry Potter books were one of the first books I read (besides Twilight) and it continues to be one of my favourite series mainly because I became more intrigued with reading!

67/365: I woke up before 6 today because my brother was being obnoxiously loud in his room playing games, although I probably would have woken up around 6 anyway. At around 7:30 I noticed that it had gotten extremely foggy outside and decided to just take a short walk to the lake! This is my brother's car and I thought it looked pretty neat.
