April 27, 2013

You know those days where you want to do nothing but lie down and watch the world go past because it seems like everything around you is just falling to pieces? Yea, it's one of those days.

I know it seems like I keep taking breaks from blogging but I seriously just have a lot to deal with. Just this past week I went to British Columbia for around 3 days, and within those 3 days a lot of shit has happened at home and at the trip. And there's seriously no way I can just completely ignore this shit because it's gotten to the point where I have no choice but to deal with it and try to fix it.

On top of that, I have 2 piano Kiwanis festivals to attend, track meets to attend, and a history exam all coming up within the the next 2 weeks. After that, I'll be pretty focused on studying for my finals.

I think I hit a reading/blogging slump as well, so I just want to avoid it for a bit. Reading an 800 page book (A Game of Thrones) has never terrified me as much as it has now, LOL.

Anyways, blogging has been put like in the back of my mind and if you don't see me posting anything, all the reasons stated above is probably why. With all that being said, I'm still going to try my best and at least have SOMETHING go up once a week. Whether it be an update post, something random, an actual review, maybe even a vlog, I'm going to try!

I will still be commenting on other blogs, and replying to comments as well. It's just that I might not actually be reviewing much on the blog for the next... 2 months-ish?!

Top Ten Tuesday: Expectations

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's topic is:

Top Ten Books I Enjoyed More or Less Than I Expected

+ Cinder by Marissa Meyer: I had read a few fairy tail retellings before this, but Cinder was so freaking AMAZING and completely blew my mind! While we knew what would happen, there were still other things such as the world building that would change the events.

+ Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry: My first zombie book, sigh. It was so good and so much more than I had expected! Maybe not all zombie books will be like this, but I am so glad I started off with this one. Where I was expecting blood, gore, and guts, I got more of self-realization, family, and friends.

+ Night Road by Kristin Hannah: It's been MONTHS since I read this and sometimes I still think about it because of all the emotions I went through.

+ Eragon by Christopher Paolini: YAY! This comes up on a lot of my TTT's, but honestly, Eragon was freaking awesome. I wasn't expecting much from a fantasy, but I absolutely LOVED it!

+ Unearthly by Cynthia Hand: After my bad experience with angel books, I had actually wanted to give them a break. But my friends eventually convinced me to Unearthly, and it is BY FAR, my favourite angel series.

- Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews: I seriously, SERIOUSLY, wanted to enjoy this more than I did. Sure, I liked it, just not as much as I thought I would. I'm not sure what ruined it for me, maybe just that nothing much happened and I didn't see any change in Greg at all.

- Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler: Gah, my first DNF. I didn't even want to read it. I just couldn't bring myself to get through it and I actually read 80 pages! It was just so... boring.

- Heaven by Alexandra Adornetto: -LE SIGH- This was one of my favourite series, but looking back now, I'm not too sure why. Maybe my taste in books have just changed! But when I read this book, I honestly just didn't like ANY OF THE CHARACTERS. A lot of things they did were either petulant, or just out of character.

Sunday Update: BC!

Sunday Update is where I link you up to the posts from the past week, and give you a heads up on the next week.

So everything you'll be seeing for the next week is scheduled because I'm actually going to be going on a band trip to another province! So yea... I'll try to do more reading than I have been this past week, but other than that, happy reading! :)

I don't have much to say except for what happened in Boston. My hearts are with all the families and individuals affected by this disgusting crime.

What a Horrible Tragedy...

If you've been seen the news at all the past day, then you'll know that I'm talking about the Boston Marathon bombing. I'm am completely disgusted and devastated at what happened. All these people were running for a good cause and some mindless, heartless, idiot decides to ruin everything. A fricking EIGHT YEAR OLD CHILD, died because of this person's actions. I am waiting for justice to be served when they finally figure out who did this. It goes without saying that my heart is with all the victims, first responders, and families of the runners.

Sunday Update: Super Duper Busy!

Sunday Update is an informative post where I link you back to the past week's post and provide you information about the following one! :)

New Books

  • Shift by Em Bailey

Hello beautiful people! I actually borrowed 4 other self-help books on photography and interior designing, but I wasn't sure if I should include that here or not. I'll review the photography books on my other blog because it's more relevant there. Quite honestly, I'm still debating whether or not I should review them at all! Oh well, I've got a load of stuff to do and don't blame me if I take another 2 weeks off. My schedule is actually just getting filled up with stuff to do.

Have a great week, and don't stop reading! :)

Discussion: Disqus?

If you've been here for a while and left comments before, you may have noticed that I use Disqus as a platform. When I first switched, I was just trying it out! Some people may not like the look of it, but in my opinion, it was quite similar to Blogger's platform.

Now, after 6 months of using Disqus, I've noticed a few things.

- When you first sign up and comment using Disqus, they send you "Disqus Digest" e-mails every day/week. They were quite annoying, but here's how you turn them off.

- With that being said, I like that Disqus informs you when someone replies to your comment. And also, it doesn't send an e-mail every time someone comments on the same post. ONLY when someone replies do they send you an e-mail.

- It has a really good spam filter! At first, I had BOTH Blogger and Disqus commenting notifications that went to my e-mail and I noticed that the spam never showed up on the Disqus platform, but they did on Blogger. HOWEVER...

- When I first installed Disqus, comments that were posted through phones wouldn't show up because I guess the mobile site didn't support the widgets. This is how I fixed that.

- You have to log in to something to comment, but to me, I didn't really mind. There are multiple ways to sign in as well: Twitter, Facebook, Disqus, Google Plus.

The process of installing Disqus was really easy as they provided all the instructions. And even the part where I had to do a bit of HTML to enable commenting from mobile phones, the site had the instructions laid out clearly. I really like Disqus and would recommend it to anyone who wants to use a commenting platform.

If you use Disqus on your blog, or have commented on a blog that uses Disqus, what do you think about it? Are there any other commenting platforms that you prefer? Or would you prefer the default commenting platforms?

Sunday Update: Back to Blogging!!

Outside the Blog

A lot has happened since I took a brief hiatus but I'll give you a BRIEF summary.

I didn't actually read a lot more than I usually would, but the break just took off the pressure of having to post regularly. This way, I would be ahead of myself and already have posts up for the next two weeks. Honestly, I don't expect this to last too long, but the break gave me more time to do things on Photoshop as you MIGHT be able to see.

During my Spring Break/March Break, I read two books that literally gave me SO MANY FEELS. That's the main reason I didn't read as much because I spent a day after each book moping around and literally doing NOTHING.

I started a new blog SOLELY for my photography just because there's a LOT of pictures I would love to post on here but it would just be way too much. So I decided to just do short posts on each set of photos over there instead of spamming people who might not want to read about them here.

This month, in addition to the Photo-A-Day project, I'm going to do a bit of filming throughout the month and put them all into a video. The original idea is here, but I just wanted to sort of do it all in my own way.

Anyways, I've got reviews scheduled for this week, sadly not for the next, but oh well! I hope you all have an awesome day, and happy reading! :)
