Sunday Update: Rest in Peace

Sunday Updates are just weekly updates to link up posts from the past week.

  • Rebel Heart by Moira Young (borrowed)
  • Unearthly by Cynthia Hand (borrowed)

As you can see, it's been a really slow week, but I'm trying my best! I really have nothing much to say except that I'm hoping to get started on one of the challenges I've recently joined for this year. OH ANNNND, if you haven't noticed, there's an awesome new Edmonton Book Bloggers button on the sidebar made by the amazing Kristilyn! Speaking of Kristilyn, she made a new blog about crafting/music/cooking. I think it's awesome, go check it out!

Happy reading, everyone! :)

Rob McMenamon was a construction/social teacher at my school. I never got the chance to be taught by him, but I'm sure he was a great teacher. He died of a heart attack last week, may he rest in peace.

Sunday Update: High School

Sunday Updates are where I link you up to the past week's posts and something to look forward to in the next week.

New Books

  • Confessions of an Angry Girl by Louise Rozett
  • Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler and Maira Kalman
  • Every Day by David Levithan

I was actually ahead of the blog last last week when I had a couple of things scheduled for the past week. Then school started... and I fell into my regular routine of posting things last minute.

So applications for Old Scona Academic School are up! If you don't live in Edmonton then let me tell you that Old Scona is... an academic school and it's freaking hard to get into. Once you get in, it's like hard labour and homework everyday for at least 2 hours (from what I hear).

Now here's why I'm talking about this... even if I don't get accepted into Old Scona, I will still be taking Full IB at the school I know I'll be going to. Therefore, I'll still have piles of homework and probably won't be able to do much blogging or reading. Just a warning for now, grade 10 shouldn't be that horrible though! :)

The best thing that happened this week was our Edmonton Book Blogger potluck. That was just amazing! I got Every Day as an exchange gift from Megan at Megan Likes Books. There was so much food and I just completely stuffed myself. I'm sure we all had an amazing time talking about bookish things, eating, and then talking about other things as well.

Happy reading everyone! :)

Sunday Update: New Year!

Here is where I link back to posts from the past week, new books I got, and also something to look forward to within the next week.

New Books

It's been kind of a busy week, what with New Years and my brother having party and what not! There's not a lot to say, except that I've been keeping up with my photography challenge. All the photos from the month will be put into one post at the end of the month, with a goal photo for the next month! It's just that the Photography tab is going to get way to crowded, so I wanted to start fresh!

I wish you all a safe and happy new year, and also a book filled new year! See you next week! :)

Bringing YA To You + Giveaway

If the title and the button wasn't enough to tell you SOMETHING, then here's the basic run down of what is going down. Beth Revis, along with Victoria Schwab, Marissa Meyer, Marie Lu, and Megan Shepherd are teaming up to-- Bring YA to You.

Do you live in a city where you kind of get the feeling that nothing ever really happens? I've had first hand experience of wishing so hard for an author to come to my hometown. These authors here will be collecting votes starting today until February 15, so just hop on over and put your vote in (for Edmonton...)!

You may have a few questions such as:

Why should you vote for Edmonton?

We have an amazing set of bloggers, all links here, and probably even more we have yet to discover! If you vote for us and you also live in Edmonton, you also benefit from this!

However, if you don't live in this city, let me tell you a little bit about it! Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta, which is a province in Canada. We have many fun festivals throughout the year, but not much that is book related. We also have the shopping centre ever, so if you ever stop by our city, make sure to go to a mall called West Edmonton Mall! Within that mall exists the largest indoor amusement park, water park, mini golf and also an ice arena!

The water park in West Edmonton Mall! There's even a wave pool!
The ice rink!!
Roller coaster in Galaxy Land called the Mind Bender!

As I've already mentioned, the bloggers here in Edmonton are great, so go check them all out! I'm sure we'd all be extremely grateful if we were the winning city. Thanks in advance, even if we are your "second choice" city.

Why should the team of YA2U come to your hometown?

For this, I have no answer, but you probably do! Know what you can do? Write a blog post about it, or post it on Facebook or Twitter! Just spread the word! You can vote for your hometown here. If you help spread the word, you can also participate in this book giveaway.
